The Hermann Park Railroad operated for the last time on January 1, 2008. The day before on New Years Eve my wife and I plus a friend who was in from out of town took one last ride. Growing up in Houston, I rode this train many times over the years, and it is sad to see it go in its current form. It will reopen in March 2008 with a new route, connections to the Museum of Natural Science, Metro's light rail line, the Zoo, and all new trains which will apparently be able to seat two adults side by side, a definite improvement over the original.

  • Okay. Are they going to incorporate this train in with Metro? I read that this train was rolling along one day when the conductor noticed two mischeivious chiltlins up ahead putting something on the track. Well, to make it short, the conductor was unable to stop the train and it derailed. Is this train being closed down? I heard they were thinking about expanding it.

  • The train you see in this video was closed in January of 2008. The track was then replaced and expanded to create a longer route and new trains were brought in. It's been reopen for a few months now.

  • Did it reopen?

  • what company manufactured this train?

  • Thank you

  • Ah... Engine #76. Fun times with that engine...always sped like no tomorrow, so you knew you had to brake early in order to slow it down in time. Looks like Tom was driving the train you were on and then Bill was driving the empty train at the end.

  • yes it is a part of my childhood in the eighties. Now that I live in Fl, its something I see go, but Im glad the didnt get rid of it all together!

  • I loved that train!
