The first in a series of videos examining the Blue Flag Award criteria and how it is actually implemented on the ground.

Despite the wightdogs.com website recently emailing the Blue Flag authority in the UK with our concerns over their criteria the only answer we have had to date is regarding copyright infringement due to their logos being displayed on our website. They have stated however that having the waste from dog bins on Blue Flag beaches ending up in land fill is in line with their "stringent" environmental requirements.

The wightdogs.com would like to thank the isleofwightinsider for the invaluable assistance in the making of this production, providing video and audio editing as well as additional footage and advise. Hopefully this will be just the first instance of a mutually rewarding and lasting association.

  • Pointless award...the criteria is just ignored. Defra have a conflict of interest as not only do they fund Encams(who ban dogs from beaches) but they also produce the guidance that states dog bans can only be introduced as a proportional response to problem caused by dogs Encams setting a one size fits all anti dog mandate for all UK beaches doesnt constitute a problem caused by dogs Blue Flags are spin as there are a finite number of tourist, if they go to one resort they dont go to another

  • When I lived in Ryde I walked my dog on the sands daily, She loved it and so did I. It is a huge area, unused by anybody but dog walkers for much of the year.

Cant drive anywhere cos its to expensive to replace pothole damaged wheels, soon wont be able to walk anywhere either. Why don't the Council just put a fence around the whole Island and save some money on running the prisons?
