I think people made such a big deal about it because of why the term was created but if black people are going to use the word, then I don't see why they should have a problem with another race calling them that.

Look up the song 'Nigger' by Clawfinger. They describe it well, that the only ones worthy of such a negative title are those rappers who call their brothers 'niggers' and their women 'bitches' or 'hos'. They insult humans (who happen to be of a darker complexion than some other humans) and are proud of it too.
