Yes, it is a car stereo. But it does it's job perfectly well on my desk. It's powered by a 350w computer power supply under my desk. (Not shown in video)
All sound in this video was generated by the movements of the harddrives' actuators/read-write arms/voice coils.
Left drive is a Western Digital WD64AA. The right is a Seagate Medalist.
The audio cables were connected to the port on the back of the drive where the circuit board (I removed them) would have connected to the internal parts of the drive. That is why you do not see the input wires leading to the voice coils.
Both drives have had their platters removed in favor of audio quality.

@jareth2472 There is speaker wire soldered to the voice coil terminals on the drive... where the controller card would be. Other people just solder them directly to the solder points (4:20 on the left drive, there's two little solder locations on the arm right above the magnet).
But I prefer using the terminals, :)
They work because they have voice coils, similar to the ones speakers have.
