The time signature for this theme is 5/4 so its a little bit difficult to track the chords and the solo. You can see my head moving on the down beats in the solo. But it turned out well I think. The Waldorf sequencer has an 8 step sequence with 6 x 1/8 step-lengths and 2 x 1/4 step-lengths. The Doepfer MAQ16/3 has 10 step sequences on two rows driving the Synthesizers.com and the self-built Modular. The first odd note sequences comes from the self-built Modular, the second sequence from the Synthesizers.com and the third sequence from the Waldorf Q Keyboard. The Roland XP80 is currently on the keyboard stand because I have to practice some music to be played on a 50 year anniversary party together with some Tidal Wave members from some 30 years ago. The XP80 has the Vintage Keys card which contain some Mellotron sounds. The solo is played on the Clavia Nord Lead 1.
Notice you can see our dog Zoë in the mirrordoor behind me.
I had to shorten the video somewhat because of the YouTube limit of 10 minutes. The original video can be seen or downloaded from my website.

  • you were the guy on synth playing live in los angeles with harmonium in 79 dont you??

  • @arpodyssey1 I wish I were, but it was not me. Back then I played in an amateur symphonic rock band in the Netherlands.

  • Really nice trip! Which Tron samples are on the upper keyboard and what's that little creature in the lower right?

  • Thank you. The keyboard on top is a Roland XP80 with the Vintage Keys 60/70 card which contain some Mellotron sounds. The little creature is our dog Zoë.

  • This is awesome, I like playing my guitar to this, I would also be curious to see if you can do one in 9/8 time, that would be super awesome!

  • @LinkBulletBill Blue Rondo A la Turk by Dave Brubeck is in the time signature. It could be counted:

    1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 3 or (as you are saying) 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 5

  • @LinkBulletBill ...yea its called 9/8 haha

  • Speaking of odd signatures, do you have anything in 3/2?

I'm really loving this one. It's very Echos and HOS worthy.

  • sounds like donkey kong land 2 water theme :-D

  • I would consider this a 2-phrase in a downtempo or half time 5/4 or a fast 10/8. tron sounds nice and soft. :)

  • I grew up learning 5/4 first before 4/4... so I'm totally used to it lol...

weirdest song I ever play, I forgot what it was called...

but it went from 4/4 to 5/4 back and forth again and again...

    that was hard to play!

    1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 5 and again... that's the rhythm you would have to get used to...

but now after 7 years since I was taught that song, I completely forgot what was the title of it.

    that was complicated stuff!

try it out, though I don't think your program could switch to 4/4 to 5/4.

  • look at all that gear...
