I think you're missing the point... They don't have to be AWARE of how they look. If a family member in their genetic lineage survived because it looked the most like a leaf, the ones that look less like leaves would be eaten, leaving the more successful, most leaf-like bug would survive to procreate, giving his spawn the same leafy appearance.

Hahaahahahahhahahahaha you know nothing about evolution. Im not going to explain it here cause im not allowed to have a long tekst. But think about this. If you have 2 organisms that are prey for instance, and 1 organism is slightly better camouflaged than the other, who of the 2 has the highest chaces of getting noticed by the hunter? And if the selection pressure is there for several generations, what kind of individuals do survive?
