VIA Rail offers passenger service across Canada or from stop to stop. I rode the train from Edmonton to Jasper. In a snowstorm. For part of the trip, railroad buff Janet Fletcher gave an impromptu talk on how this historic line got started.

  • Thanks, kuskanook. Accuracy: always a good thing. I appreciate the corrections.

  • Many thanks, ONRailfan. It's one of my first videos, and it's been rightly criticized as long and slow. I knew that then, but I was so taken with her talk and her enthusiasm, I decided to keep it in. Now, I'm glad I did. jules

  • Nice video except her info is not accurate!

The Great Northern was built solely in the US.

What she wrongly refering toas the Great Northern is indeed the Canadian Northern Pacific and correctly

the Grand Trunk Pacific although the GN did build lines into Canada specifically the V V&E the Vancouver victoria and EasternRailway and Navigation co.

The five mike tunnel she refers to is the Connaught under Rogers pass built 1914-1916 not in the 1800's .

  • Lovely video i love the history lesson she was giving
