The directionality of acoustic radiation during a red-winged blackbird song. The top shows the male from 3 different camera angles (used to determine which way the bird was facing); the lower left is a spectrogram of the song; the lower right is a a polar plot (with the bird in the center, facing up) that shows the relative amplitude of the sound as measured on 8 mics encircling the bird (each line is 6dB). From a study in Ithaca, NY.
