Is Muslim integration in Europe possible?

Is Islam Compatible with Secularism?

Is Europe unable to assimilate Its growing Islamic Minority?

Representing the Muslim perspective was Professor Tariq Ramadan, Tariq is a Swiss Muslim academic and theologian, he holds MA in Philosophy and French literature and PhD in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of Geneva.

He is a grandson of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood (Al-Ikhwan Al-Muslimoon) in Egypt.

In Cairo, Egypt he received one-on-one intensive training in classic Islamic scholarship from Al-Azhar University scholars.

He advocates the studying and re-interpretation of Islamic texts, and emphasizes the heterogeneous nature of Islamic society.

He believes that Muslims in Europe have to establish a new "European Islam", and emphasizes the necessity for their engagement in European society.

Tariq Ramadan has resigned from the post of Professor of Islamic Studies at Notre Dame University (Classic Department) and Luce Professor at the Kroc Institute (Religion Conflict and Peacebuilding).

Prof. Tariq Ramadan is Professor of Islamic Studies (Faculty of Theology at Oxford)

He is also a visiting Professor (holding the chair : Identity and Citizenship) at Erasmus University (Netherland)

Representing the Secular side was Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Ayaan is a controversial Dutch feminist, writer, and politician.

She is the estranged daughter of the Somali scholar, politician, and revolutionary opposition leader Hirsi Magan Isse.

In 2005, she was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, She has also received several awards for her work, including Norway's Human Rights Service's Bellwether of the Year Award, the Danish Freedom Prize, the Swedish Democracy Prize, and the Moral Courage Award for commitment to conflict resolution, ethics, and world citizenship.

  • Tarik Rammadan is TOOO smart for this little girl, he must speak street language to her ..... Islam = Peace , think about it.... After Every action there is a Reaction... If some guy wants to hurt you, then you will fight back! Stop fighting the moslims in EU we are now part of EU accept this and let us be, I'm very sure after this we will live in HARMONY

  • @ThinkkAboutit I don't think so. 1:20-2:00 Smarty-pants Tariq thinks you can avoid patent contradictions by saying, oh no, these statements that look contradictory, they actually belong to different "planes of discourse". Whereas Ayaan knows that this sort of drivel goes down well in an Oxford common room, but cuts no ice in the real world. How many times has some smug male clericalist lectured a woman by saying her common sense is too simplistic for his "higher wisdom". Kiss my arse, Tariq!

  • I have no confidence in Rammadan. I as an non-believer do not question Maajid Awez or Ed Hussien in that way. I feel they a genuine in their intentions. Tariq gives me an uneasy feeling.

  • ayaan's last bit of speech - she just had to get it in. "Forced marriages" .....Like that was the whole crux of the matter.

No, pathetic ayaan, no. In this vast world of Muslims, "forced marriages" is a tiny % and fast becoming an invention on YOUR part.

In a cynical tone - "Good looking Muslim men saying that Islam is peace and love".... Why are we even commenting on looks? What exactly was the point?

Good job creating bigotry against Muslims - especially the good looking ones.

  • she dont even know what she is talking about. and i am not intrastate to hear her history in the pass. most of the thing she said about muslim is not true thats all i can say

  • He is right She just wants to please her audience, she is even opposing muslim reformist, so if we gonna follow her in the end she wants us to do genocide against entire muslims, staring from europe.

  • Tariq seems to not want to answer anthing directly. He wants to be all things to all people. Either Islam allows seperation of state and religion or it does not. Either Sharia Law is compatible with an open society and freedom of choice or is not.

  • Tariq Ramadan is too good for this

  • LOL They cant follow what Tariq is saying because his level of linguistic ability is too high for them.

  • @koora8 its true, look all the Muslim who were non Muslim(Christine) like hamza yusuf, he did say that fake should be put to death no he left it came to Islam and talked about the religion of Islam , not how Christianity is bad for you
