Many people in Ireland object to the Irish government-backed scheme to install a high-pressure pipeline and a huge gas refinery in Erris, County Mayo.

Michael D Higgins is an opposition politician from nearby Galway.

  • Our Government need more people like Michael D Higgins.

  • PRESIDENT Michael D. Higgins now ! Fair play to the man !

I know he will be limited to what he can and cannot say ( officially at least ) as , as far as i know its in the Constitution that all presidents speeches have to be vetted by the govt. But even so, he has more integrity in his little finger than Gilmore has in his whole body.....

  • NOT IRELANDS POLICE BUT SHELLS POLICE.....THIS COUNTRY IS A JOKE

  • @theclericjohnfranc ...You were saying? :)

  • To be fair, the gas field was signed away in 1993 by the then government of Ireland, which was a FF coalition with.....The Labour Party.....want to know who was Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht in that government? Mr.Higgins!!!

Funny,he wasnt too bothered to speak out about "Ireland resources" then and that he only cares when he can get a bit of publicity for himself!

Wonder what he will do for "the people" he cares so much about if he gets the Presidency?

  • hello i am just reading something about british politicians getting charged for misuse og expense accounts, why does that not happen in ireland. i am from galway and the local city councillors spend on average 140,000 euro a year on their expense accounts. and you can walk out of the city in 25 mins in any direction. and the population is only 150,000. they are spendind 3,000 a week
