Lago de Atitlan is one of the deepest, largest and most beautiful lakes in Guatemala, Central America. Due to many years discharge of untreated sewage water, Lago de Atitlan literally collapsed in November last year 2009. A consequence of too much nutrients released in to the lake causing Cyano algae blooming, which in turn starved the water of oxygen, killing most of the fish. There are solutions to save the lake but at the moment political courage seems to be lacking. For more information see the full version of the film and also you can contact tomas.persson@greenforze.com
Nice sounds and images but it raises lots of questions: what is cyano? (please inform us, the ignorant masses), what is Greenforze's role in the problem? And how is the lake "collapsing"? (I would have thought a collapsing lake would be when the bottom fell out of it or the water drained from it, as with Aral Sea).
