This was built using a design by Scott Eggleston. you can get a parts list at http://filmflap.blogspot.com/2011/08/trolley-dolly-camera-slider.html. Cost was about $50.

Like a steadicam it takes some practice to get good smooth dolly shots. This little DIY slider isn't the smoothest, but it's not bad. I used my heavy Canon XH-A1 camcorder and then my much lighter HV-40 for comparison. I found the HV-40 much easier to handle and different angles. The rails definitely needed additional support on the ends with the larger camcorder.

  • Good take. Thanks for the share. How much did it cost?

  • @saunivideo I used Scott Eggleston's parts list. It probably cost between $40-$50....and I used some old tripods which I already had to stablize the ends when needed. Scott also used a Manfrotto quick release plate, which is probably $50-$60. However I just screwed the track directly to the tripod. The track plate was too thick for the screws with my quick release plate.
