@optichumora You are most probably right, but I still like this version better than the album version. Just sounds like theres so much more feeling in this song than the album version, and all these flaws you mention, well, i enjoy them. I enjoy the ending with the "raaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (breath) aaaaaaaaaaaaails". So, i think i disagree with you, even though you are somewhat right; this version is superior to the album version.

Amazing vocals

@optichumora Nothing is accidental... imagine if you listened to album version without having listened to this... I say the album version is technically better because we once heard to this piece of art, even not perfect :)
-
@exogeographer I agree, but we can't unrate this version, cause everything they've experiences in 1996-2001 was just a huge transformation. That's why they're the best

Just a few words: people can't say this version "doesn't sound like Radiohead", "the organ is poor"... if you listened to Kid A songs before 2000 you'd say the same thing, and Radiohead is this, being sometimes not like Radiohead... that's why they're one of the best bands in history.

Radiohead shouldnt have released a different version... I waited for this song since 1998 and it came different... so comparisons are always made, but the final lines are just amazing, it's a shame they didn't put it on album version.

@optichumora Yet, the lines "Now that you've found it, it's gone, Now that you feel it, you don't, You've gone off the rails" is still strong and just perfect, and maybe shouldnt have be removed.

I don't know what I prefer. I HATE the organ shrieks in this version, especially around 3:35 and 4:08. New version: I really dislike the funk shuffle, Thom's voice is too bare, he sounds like the child molester from Family Guy. I do love its moments of climactic silence and the use of arpeggiated guitar support, but think the guitar is better in this earlier version around 3:55-4:15. The ending of this version is god awful. Main component I miss from this version is the glockenspiel.

i guess I am one of the few (or only who likes this version better han the one in in rainbows but I can only think it os because I spent years listening to this one and now it seems just perfect...makes me wanna cry everytime
I love hearing the early versions of my favorite songs, but I definitely love the album version of this one much better. Notice how Thom's voice wavers on some of the lines? It's because they hadn't yet committed to the lyrics, changes, etc. I'm sure he also didn't feel totally comfortable singing such a bare line. The funk-like elements he added in the album version took care of that.
Biggest change: the climactic silence missing at 4:16. That's my favorite part of the album version.

I'll restate what I said before. This version is inferior. Parts of it are just low quality because it was obviously underdeveloped at the time this recording took place. But mostly it's missing all the great elements of the album version. Plus, lyrics like "She kisses..." don't even sound like Radiohead lyrics. They sound like Dave Matthews' Band lyrics. The long, long "Raaaaaaaaaaa (breath) aaaaaails" is just obscene. AND THE ENDING, organ going 2-1, with the little drum thing... bad.
