THis is so rad!

@jstayii 1) The activists didn't deface the monument, the banner and the gear they were using caused no harm to Mount Rushmore at all. 2) It actually made a lot of difference. The banner drop occurred because President Obama had said he would not be attending the Copenhagen Climate Conference. A month after this banner drop, the President called Greenpeace telling them he would now be attending. 3) This is civil disobedience. 4) No one had to go get them, they came up on their own.

what positive change or revolution didnt occur with out some law breaking? the founding fathers of america lead rebels (and at most time quite VIOLENT rebels, do we recall tarring and feathering? greenpeace is completely non violent.), they didnt care that they were breaking law, they cared about their freedom, doing what was right.Law is subjective .Every law should be questioned in its morality btw, stop being such a useless sheep to society "jstayii" & do something worth standing up for

@jstayii the point is to continually and consistantly keep the issue on the forefront of people's minds. Greenpeace is a non violent organization that chooses to do this through creative communication methods.

@jstayii No one got hurt. I understand that you were disappointed that the pictures didn't come out the way you wanted them to, but these demonstrators were causing no harm to the people or the property. Park rangers go on the job knowing the dangers of the park. They were inconvenienced, but they are professionals, the park rangers know how to not fall off cliffs. The demonstrators appear to show no resistance to their arrest. The point is not monumental change at one point in time,

It was a banner which was easily removed, the monument was not harmed in any way. Its not like they spray painted it up there.
its irritating when people call these guys idiots. they did something most people wouldn't do. the jumped off a cliff for what they believed in. and you're mad because they altered some of your pictures. whether you are on board for the cause or not, please have some respect.

@missheath000 "they did something most people wouldn't do" - break the law? I drove 12 hours to get there, only to have my experience ruined by a couple activists defacing the monument to get a point across that probably made little difference. I have every right to call them idiots. They broke the law. They risked other peoples lives (those that had to go get them down). They ruined a very American experience for the thousands of people that were probably seeing the monument for the 1st time

LuMagazine, because a) they trespassed and risked the death or injury of themselves and possibly others (the park rangers, especially), b) they ruined that day when my family was hoping to come and get some nice pictures of Mount Rushmore and now we were stuck with that banner in all of our pictures, and c) they could have done this much more effectively on the Great Wall of China where global warming (caused by humans) is a much greater risk
