Teenage murders Derek & Alex King: Background Report

Forty-year-old printer Terry King was asleep in his Florida home when he was bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat and his home set ablaze in an apparent attempt to destroy the evidence.

Now the man's longtime friend and his two young sons, 12 and 13 at the time of the Nov. 25, 2001, killing, will stand trial for his murder.

Alex and Derek King, now 13 and 14 [August, 2002], respectively, confessed to the brutal crime in a tape-recorded interview with police. If convicted, they would receive a mandatory sentence of life behind bars. State law requires that those convicted as adults of first-degree murder receive life without parole.

You just dont know what go's on behind closed doors. I was a foster carer until I witnessed a female social worker attack a 11 year old boy on 3 seperate occasions, I got sacked for reporting her, nothing was done to her and remains the boys SW. No wonder kids lose it when they have no-one to turn to or simply not believed

@oystergirl77 Yeah but even if you saw a caring father that doesn't mean that's what happened. My brother has been thru situations where the guardian has seemed nicer than she really was. Don't let yourself be deceived

Why exactly does America feel the need to try 13 and 14 year old boys as ADULTS!! There has to be child charges for this because child murdering is nothing new to this country

its true we never know what happens behind closed doors. and i am not saying there is not a possibility that something happened between terry and his boys, but i know what i saw, heard and lived by. sadly no one but those boys, their father , ricky chavis and God will ever truely know what took place. but there true day of judgement will come.

and by the way he never let his children with with ricky chavis. they ran away because the youngest had been minipulated by Ricky chavis. when he was told not to come around, the boys ran away. he searched for those boys for days. even cops had been to chavis"s house looking.

contrary to all the posts ive seen i actually lived by the kings. terry king was a good man who tried to help both his children. when he got custody of them theyd already been through abusive situations. i never ever seen anything but love from him for his children when the oldest moved in alot of trouble strarted. and ricky chavis was banned from the king home right before this happend. he was told never to go around terrys kids again.

yeah sure, they have no evidence the father was abusive or that something else was wrong. because, yeah, we all know it just happens at times, that two kids decide to murder their own father in bad faith. makes much more sense. ...

he was a responsible father!!so responsible that he let his children live with his pedophile friend ,the oe talking on the video ,he and thefather are the crimenals the kids should get help no treated like adult murderers.

what the children see and experienced gave them an unstable way of thinking..psychologically disturbed and scared...whatever made them do it is the main concern...maybe the father really abused them and tortured them, no one really knows the truth...justice should weigh the situation before assuming anything.
