While I am definitely supportive of getting people more involved in scientific endeavors, I'm wonder why we put such an emphasis on astronomy and astrophysics rather than things I find more practically useful. It seems to me that the study of biology and medicine are far more important, and less understood among the common public. Molecular biology in particular. Why do these subjects not recieve as much attention?
