There are some things that we felt were better said in person, without video.
When I was 17, I found a place where I really felt like I fit in. This is the second time I learned the importance of community, the first being after going through some rough times in high school. Over the past year, I have built up a community of friends and family that I feel I can always fall back on, and that is such a great feeling. Coming to Breakthrough, I got to be part of another community where everyone accepts me for who I am, no matter my age or my position on the staff. If I haven't made it obvious throughout the summer, I want to make it obvious now. You guys are such beautiful people, both inside and out. I hope I never lose the relationships I have formed with any of you, and I can't thank you enough for accepting me and giving me a summer that I will never forget.

Last summer I spent a month doing an immersion program in France and anyone who's studied abroad for any amount of time can attest to how amazing of an experience that is. I never thought I would ever again have such an incredible summer, bond so quickly and easily with a group of people, or go through such an unforgettable and eye-opening experience. I'm happy to say that I was completely wrong.
In exactly three weeks from now on the first day of my senior year, I'm going to wish you guys were out there doing the bridge for me, welcoming me back.
When I'm eating lunch in the cafeteria, I'll be remembering Senor's cheers and how I put a smile on my face for the kids, and how that smile soon became automatic.
And when I'm filling out those awful college applications, there'll be that one application I'll look forward to -- the one that will let me come back to BTH next summer.
