The Indon and Malay settlers in the Philippines domesticated dogs as farm guards and for food since 6000 years ago. At present an estimated 40% of Filipinos eat dog meat for reasons of Taste, Tradition or poverty.

@Virgiecatorce You are just conditioned to think that dogs are special. Cows plow fields, carry heavy loads, obey voice command, love and care for it's young, feel pain and just because it cannot show emotion doesn't make it an inferior animal to dogs. Animals have their own traits. All animal life are equal. It's a matter of choice. If you can chose to eat a cow/beef then why can't some people chose to eat a dog?

The problem is that dogs move their tail when they see you (most of them). Other animals don't do that. So eating a dog is like eating your best friend or someone you care and love...If I had to kill animals with my own hands in oder to survive I think I'd become a vegetarian.

We kill a million turkeys on thanksgiving. What it is to us if they kill a thousand doggie in their home land in a year.
Cows are god for hindus but food for us. Why can our pets not be food for Chinese if we eat someone else's god.
Just because dogs wag it's tail doesn't make it different from other animals, they can be food too. Cows plow fields, love their young and feel pain too.
So if you eat beef or pork you're a hypocrite to make an issue for those who eat doggie meat.

@gerberbaby281 We are just conditioned to think that dogs are special. But Cows recognize voice command of it's master such as "stop, go" etc. It cares for their young and cry when feeling pain too. Just because the poor cow cannot express her emotion doesn't make it a lesser animal than a dog. Cows built roads and carry heavy loads. Pigs are smart and emotional as well if only given the chance to associate with humans. All animals are of equal value, it's a matter of choice.
