The 170 518 is the xc service from nottingham to cardiff central and it runs on the midland line.
A great line, one of my favourites and is very well used by commuters to and from birmingham new street.
Im sure it holds fond memories for others like us :)

I was only born in '82! My memory goes back quite far though to 1985 when 50's were still being used a lot at Cheltenham.
My father and I take a great interest in Cheltenham's railway history.

It sounds to me like you were there back then. I can just remember the steam engines running across Dowderswell (??) Viaduct in between Andoversford and Notgrove. Given that my grand father was the last goods supervisor at Bourton on Water station, I wonder if I should cut the ribbon when the station is reopened at Broadway.

Ah yes, 'heritage' DMUs. The only problem was that BR thought they were high tech!

Fantastic video! Cheltenham is my home town, I've been coming to this station since I can remember. I particularly remember sitting on Platform 2 with my dad when I was a small child in about 1984/85 waiting for my grandmother to arrive from London. If it wasn't an HST she'd arrive on a Class 50 with Mk.1's or Mk.2's!! Nearly every train was loco hauled with the exception of a few 'heritage' DMUs!

Cheltenham Malvern Road was on the Honeybourne Line towards the racecourse. A junction went off the Honeybourne line where Waitrose is and St James Station was also there, but trains could bypass St. James.
Leckhampton was on a different line - the Banbury line. A junction came off the LMS line (the current active line in which Cheltenham Spa is built) about a mile west of the station in the Hatherley area. This line served Leckhampton, Charlton Kings then Andoversford.
