In a way it is a horrible thought. No Queen Elizabeth? No way! It wouldn't have been the same without her. She did so much for her country, things that we might today miss and need.

@tribetng I think the reason little Edward would never had dare kill his older sister is one, she was his blood sister and two, she was protected by the most powerful Prince in all of Europe: Her cousin once remove, the ruler of Spain from her mother side of the family.

Fun Fact the exact same thing happened to Mary when little brother Edward was on the throne imprisonment, humiliation, interrogation (not quit torture but close enough) he had her death warrant on his desk and the quill in his hand but couldn't or wouldn't sign it. however you cut it they were one screwed up family.

Indeed, she almost lost her head like her cousin and former Queen: Jane Grey.

@md991free Very, Elizabeth was in prison with no real hope of escape, Mary had her death warrant drawn up and ready to go, it was actually put into Mary's hands with a quill and ink and all she had to do was sign it. That's about as close to death as i think you can get in Tudor England and come back from.

Its a good thing that it did not happen. First of all, although Mary may have been a devout catholic, she was first a Tudor and would not have put her own sister to death.  As for Mary, she was a polictical ploy that was used by the Catholic church and Spain. Her reign was tragic and she would have been devistating for England. Her son was the only salvation her reign produced. Not much there either!
