[CHICAGO] Commending Governor Pat Quinns focus on economic recovery, passion for ethics reform, and longstanding concern for the environment, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (D-IL) today announced his endorsement of Governor Quinn.

"Pat Quinn has brought a passion to serve and a willingness to take on historical problems on behalf of the families of Illinois," said Congressman Quigley. "Our state has been paying the cost of corruption for too long; now more than ever, we can't afford it. I'm proud to support Governor Quinn and will do what I can to further reform at all levels of government along with him."

Throughout his years in public service, Mike Quigley has always stood up for the people against machine politics and special interests, Governor Quinn said. I am honored by Congressman Quigleys endorsement, and I look forward to working with him to make Illinois a stronger, greener, more prosperous state.

In announcing his endorsement on Monday, Congressman Quigley said he strongly supports Governor Quinns $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! capital plan, which is already putting people back to work in Cook County and throughout the state. Combined with the federal stimulus program, Illinois Jobs Now! is helping Illinois move toward economic recovery.

Like Congressman Quigley, Governor Quinn is committed to a 21st-century vision of clean air and water, green jobs, and sustainable energy. Reflecting that commitment, Illinois Jobs Now! invests $1.3 billion in environmental projects, including $516 million for water projects.

Quigley also noted Quinns achievements in reforming state government, citing the words of Justice Louis Brandeis, sunshine is the best of disinfectants. With that same motto in mind, Governor Quinn created the new online Illinois Transparency and Accountability Portal and signed legislation that increases oversight of lobbyists, toughens the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, and overhauls the state procurement process.
