Mungiki burial in Mathira

In what would appear to be a bold message to show that the outlawed Mungiki group was still alive and kicking, hundreds of mourners believed to be Mungiki members turned up for the burial of 2 Mungiki adherents who were killed early this week by members of local vigilante groups in Karatina. Despite slight showers during the funeral, the mourners were in full voice, singing and dancing for their departed comrades. There was a heavy security presence during the tense funeral which, nonetheless, ended without any incident.
