As a songwriter/performer, I look at this video objectively, and after viewing it a hundred times, it still astonishes me how much passion this man can put into a performance of his own song. It brings a tear to my eye to watch it, mainly because I realize that I am viewing true genius here and I am just another sad guest on this dark earth. Thank you Mr. Waits. (bows respectfully)

I remember being a kid and discovering the greats; it was a dream like state that I would come out of awed and inspired. As i got older, I got better at knowing when I had stumbled on another great, so it is with this song and with Tom Waits. Can't help but rub my hands together: this is gonna be good......
