Never been to Rochester but I've got a bunch of tapes someone recorded from TV over there. This is for an "Album Rock" format FM station (meaning they actually played any song from an album they felt like, not limited to what had been released as singles). Doesn't mention the call letters or the exact frequency and don't know what format they are now.

The music at the end of this commercial is "Spiral" by Vangelis, which is a great synth track but I doubt this station actually played it.

  • @gillgrappler I'm also looking for the "Frightening Flickers" opening montage featuring Gregory the Grave Walker. No luck yet. :-(

  • They used to have a guy in a costume advertising the station. The Magic Moose still lives on as the mascot of the Rochester American's hockey team. WMJQ was on 92.5 MHz and changed to the still with us country format WBEE. The call sign has been passed around western New York since, but not assigned to any station remotely as well-liked as this one was.

  • You say you have never been here-what's keeping you? granted we are not the Great citys of Europe, but we have our good points.

  • We need more stations that play both Van Halen and Supertramp.

  • I'd love to see the spot which was done for WWWG about this same time.... They ran it in theaters as well as on the air...

  • You don't happen to have anything from the shows "Frightening Flickers", "Monster Matinee" (both shown on WHEC channel 10), or Creature Features" (shown on WUHF channel 31) do you?

I have been searching for anything from those three Horror/Sci-Fi movie shows forever!

  • WMJQ Baby! The best album rock station from back in the day. Sexiest female DJ-ettes too (OK I was a teen then). I tuned in from suburb of Syracuse because it had nothing that came close. While I am at it... hats off to WUHF, channel 31 and House of Guitars too!!!!
