The Archdiocese of New York has decided to grab your attention during the homestretch of the Liturgical Calendar by posting an ad for confession that parodies the much beloved ShamWow! commercial.

SoulWow might be the most modern move we've seen from the church in a long time. We'll have to check back and find out if confessionals throughout Long Island see lines going past their rectories tonight.

  • There are a lot of great things about this video. Many Catholics dread going to confession, this addresses that by showing it as positive experience. It's also unforgettable, no chance its going to "slip your mind" this time.

  • The video speaks the language of today that people understand - it is of the marketplace because thats what people hear most of the time - religious language seems foreign to many people who still need to be reached with a religious message... the video recognizes the obvious truth that the Gospel needs to be interpreted in light of the times... a time of infomercials and sound bites

  • It is so great how that Soul Wow video is encouraging people to go to confession (and to be featured on a big news station is also great!)!! :) Great job!!

  • Ms Richardson I find your ignorance laughable. The message of the video is to encourage lax Catholics to go to confession. Especially during the time of Lent. What's wrong with that? It's just another way to get someones attention. And obviously it did. Even non Catholics. And I think thats awesome. The video was funny, not sacrilegious, impious, irreligious, or vulgar at all, but rather encouraging. This video was made by Catholics for Catholics. PERIOD

  • I don't understand what's sacrilegious here. I am a Catholic Youth Minister and find this a great way to introduce the idea of Confession. Clearly, you set up the idea of Confession first (this would be for Middle School age and up). No fault, no foul.

  • i think its funny - whats impious about it? jesus had a sense of humor too. it doesnt mean its not serious, it is serious...its just a different approach
