  • Hello mate, really nice sounds. I hope you might be so kind as to help me, did you change the pots and caps as well as the pickups? I have an early 80's SA700 that is a fine guitar, but the trbles can be quite harsh. I'm considering seths or antiquities for it, {tend to agree about A5 vs A2} I just don't want to pull the entire harness if in fact the existing pots are up to the job. I'm assuming (hoping) the pots on mine will be similar to the SA2000... Cheers, stone

  • @SuperStone71 I did replace the entire harness, but unless you're having troubles with the pots there's no real need to do it. The pots were a little lower than I like them at 475k and 350k ... so the new pots and caps added some high end. The nice thing about the SA2000 is the pickups can be disconnected at the pickups. You could just replace the pickups first. Only replace the harness if you have to ... it was some work but there are some tricks that made it easier.

  • Man I've never heard of the richter supra-luxe before, but your tone is AWESOME!!! I have a Yamaha SA2000 but I changed out the pickups to Duncan JB & 59. Had been considering putting back the stock pickups, your video sold me on it those pickups are going back in!

  • @Gtrmaestro Yeah I did not change a solder joint on that guitar since I bought it new for over 30 years. I broke down and put a set of Seth Lovers in there about 6 months ago. Man those are nice too ... I like them. It all feels good on that guitar ... my main squeeze.

  • @dovemanvideo You like the Seth Lover's? The JB is a little too much gain for me, the 59 is okay but not perfect. I noticed those Seth Lover's are Alnico II's, what are the differences from the stock pickups? I can't find any info about the original SA2000 pickups at all. Would you say that the Seth Lover's or the Yamaha pickups are hotter? I put some Slash signature Alnico II's in my Les Paul, those work pretty well if you play with fingers mostly. Too bright if you use a pick all the time.

  • @Gtrmaestro The stock Yamahas are 8.9k and 8.95k ... I think they are A5s. My Seths are A2s that measure 7.5k and 8.1k. My feel is that A5 are brighter than A2 generally and the A2 has a softer "edge". So the Seths are not as hot as the stocks and have a little softer edge. Less hot than my LP's 57/57+. I like the Seths better than SD '59 & AIIs. Hope that helps.

  • @dovemanvideo Thanks, I appreciate you sharing your experience I'm loathe to change things, but I've had Antiquities before, and they appeal to my ears, and this guitar appeals to my hands... I'll put some thought to my options... You have to love this stuff, these older Japanese instruments are from a golden era of their own..Cheers, BTW your amp sounds the business as well!

  • @SuperStone71 This recording is with the original pickups and totally stock. It was original for 30+ years. Recently, I took a chance and put in Seth Lovers and RS Guitarworks Superpots. I like the sound ... it's not quite as hot. Original: volume pots = 475k, tone pots = 350k, tone caps = .022uf New: Volume = RS Guitarworks SuperPots = ~550k+, tone pots = 500k, orange drop caps .015uf neck and .022uf bridge.

  • @dovemanvideo That does help thanks a lot man! Always searching for maximum tone! My SA2000 is my favorite guitar too, but my ideal tone has changed I use way less gain now than I used to. Thanks again.

  • hi man great sound !

i'm looking at this guitar and you seem ti have a very nice one, i would appriciate it so much if you'd make a video demo thing of it, with some clean sounds. I wouldn't normaly ask this but there aren't many videos on here of the yamaha sa2000

  • hey, great playing, great sound!

but even though i am an es335 fan, i must say i prefer the tone and feel you get when playing on your strat or tele style guitars.

you seem more in your element when you play them..

anyway, love all your videos, man! keep up the good work!

    Deev

  • @Blackcountryjohn Good to hear from you and thanks. Hope you guys are all doing well.

  • Wow Ken , Love the playing ------and the tone is wonderful on the Yamaha .

    all the best ......

    cheers

    John (Johnny English) off TGG

  • @87Greenend LOL ... My son traded some PA equipment to me for the P90 guitar a couple of years ago for my band effort. He bought the Schecter Tele recently. He was going to raise the funds to pay me by selling the P90 guitar but I hated to see it go ... so we worked out a trade for the two guitars. Hope you and the guys are doing well. I'm playing more ... have a 3rd session coming up next Sunday ... and playing with my sons band again the week after ... all is good here.

  • @dovemanvideo Yeah it's me Ken. Hope you're OK and really nice to sit and watch the vids, especially the Gig with your Son.

HaHaHa Love the fact you buy a guitar that you sold so that your son can pay you for another one! Confused yet? I am LOL

  • @87Greenend Rob from TGG? Nice to hear from you. Just discovered how to Youtube. Yes the LP had some badly worn strings on it and may be my favorite but the Yamaha is totally stock from 1980. I was going through old receipts this morning and found the receipt for it. The P90s are good ... I don't like the noise (my only guitar that hums now) but my son was about to sell it to raise funds to pay me for the Schecter Tele ... just could not let it leave the family.

  • BLISS.... I can see why this was your favourite gigging guitar. The LP is nice too, don't get me wrong, but THIS is something else. Are these the Stock Yamaha Pups or have you done any changes?

    Cheers

    Rob
