Thank you very much for standing up for Unitarian Universalism. I am a 13-year-old and I believe in UU strongly and go to church (OWL and the service) regularly.

@99minerkc The Principles of Unitarian Universalism help prevent us to develop dogma, from 'The inherent worth and dignity of every person" to "a free and responsible search for truth and meaning." And even then, the Principles are not a requirement to be part of the Unitarian Universalist religion. I am accepted as my all: as a theist, as an Asian, as a gay male, and everything that makes up who I am. And I know and affirm these principles built for love of all humankind. :)

@sinmantyx My exact point! See what the church evolved into? It went from innocence to what you just described! Let's hope as I said before that your church can stay away from dogma! :-)
-
@99minerkc Actually, you look at the history and it evolved OUT of a dogmatic religion. Unitarians wanted to use reason to figure out God. The Universalists thought God was too nice to send people to hell. It has Christian roots.
It could be argued that current UU ideals are basically what happens when you take dogma and fear out of religion and wait a few years.
-
@sinmantyx I'm sure other religions felt the same as you at some point, let's hope yours doesn't evolve(:p)into a typical dogmatic religion.
peace
may god be less!

@99minerkc It's still an organization of people, it is still a religion. However, it isn't dogmatic in principle. It's not perfect, but I find that my church is useful for social support and cooperation for common goals - that sort of thing. It's a bottom-up organization, so your results may vary.
-
@sinmantyx A UU "CHURCH"? Hmm.... do you take offerings?
-
@99minerkc I have a guess that you are confusing UU with religion (in the traditional sense). Considering that a great number of members of my UU church are atheists and almost all of them self-identify as humanists, if you put them in the same category as "religion in general" you sort of miss the point.
-
As a member of Unity Church I can say that I am encouraged by the witness of the UUA in promoting love for all people unconditionally.

Awhhh man =)
Too cool.
I love the sense of community UU churches give ^ ^ I can't survive a Sunday without going to church. Everyone's so warm.
Keep on truckin'.
Rather than standing on the outside, judging others, why not come inside and experience Unitarian Universalism? We truly are the uncommon denomination.

99minerkc says: "Many religious people are running around youtube hating gays so don't talk about love!"
Speaking as a gay UU, I have been embraced by Unitarian Universalism not in spite of who I am but simply because I am. It was a wonderful experience being with thousands of others, dedicating themselves through their words and deeds, to Standing on the Side of Love.
