I bought this recorder for $1 at a garage sale on 5/1/08.

I'm guessing it's from the late 70's. DC Bias. Playback is slightly slow.

  • I had the same tape recorder when I was a kid. I got it for Christmas in 1978.

  • @Upperstrom Nice! I always got the Kiddie style recorders when I was little.

  • @Upperstrom Your welcome! Too bad my unit has a few problems.

  • Any idea what those tunes are? Got me head nodding!

  • Yeah, the track is called "Armed" by Pryda.

  • @Trance88 I remember it being a durable unit. I remember dropping it on the ground a few times and it still played. I don't know what happened to it but I know I put a fair amount of miles on it. Thanks for posting - brings back memories :-)

  • That's a neat recorder and cool music! To bad it is DC bias... The erase issue might be a wire broken off the erase head, or the wire might be loose inside the insulation. Or the erase head may be open circuit and might be able to be rejuvinated by running a 9 volt battery across it. That's what fixed my Lloyd's cassette recorder's erase. I have a similar JCPenney recorder with a VU meter, but is STILL DC bias!

  • This cassette recorder is perfect for adding vocals in with the music! If you play this cassette in a stereo cassette deck with VU meter, you might see that the recorder will favor one one channel much more than the other, so what you're getting is one of the channels is almost recorded over, and the other channel is still in tact. That's what my '71 Panasonic tape recorder does. It records more on the left track on the tape and the right track is about 25% less noise.
