Oresund Bridge - Great Attractions (Denmark)

This cable-stayed bridge not only links Sweden and Denmark but also connects many parts of Western and Central Europe.

By the year 1995, the construction of the bridge had begun and while it was completed in 1999, it was not until 2000 that the bridge was officially opened.

To commemorate this occasion the Danish Queen and the Swedish King hosted the celebrations and the ceremony.

Because the Copenhagen airport would be to close to the bridge, and to avoid any disasters to happen, they decided to make the first half from Denmark a tunnel, and then the cabel bridge because it was alot cheaper to construct.

Why did they build the bridge out instead of doing only the tunnel?
