Death and Destruction in the Falaise Gap
The definitive film account of the battle in the 'Falaise Gap' in Lower Normandy between Allied forces and two Panzer armies. Featuring dramatic combat footage from both sides.
The battle of the Falaise Pocket, fought during the Second World War from 12--21 August 1944, was the decisive engagement of the Battle of Normandy. Taking its name from the area around the town of Falaise within which the German Seventh and Fifth Panzer Armies became encircled by the advancing Western Allies, the battle is also referred to as the Falaise Gap after the corridor which the Germans sought to maintain to allow their escape. The battle resulted in the destruction of the bulk of Germany's forces west of the River Seine, and opened the way to Paris and the German border.

Well German commanders never backed down when an opportunity like Falaise was presented for them. The Western Allies were very cautious, it's a fact. They were always worried about flank exposure.

The troops fielded by Germany on the Atlantic wall were the old, very young and the sick/injured on recuperation. In France there were some battle experienced German battalions but again a large number were on R&R from the eastern front. Those that had stayed in France since invasion had spent the last four years living the high life and were extremely unfit and out of shape, much to the annoyance of their commanders on many occasions.

@ExtremelyFlamable100 You obviously didn't read any of what I wrote i.e. what the military archives say. By the way Bruce Oliver never knew about his own deed because he died on a plane crash in the 50s. He and Remlinger didn't even know at the time they killed Rommel ; only Remlinger was still alive in '95 to learn it when the archives were disclosed. He said he quite wasn't proud of it.

@julosx he commited suicide because hitler said that he would spare his family if he commited suicide

@julosx I thought rommel committed suicide after he was accused of complicity in the valkyrie attempt on hitler.

Rommel didn't commit suicide because he was critically injured by two Spitfires (piloted by Jacques Remlinger and Bruce Oliver) on July 17, 1944 who strafed the Horch car he was in. He suffered from a broken skull with his brain showing out, fell into a coma and never regained consciousness before dying. The UK archives about his death were disclosed in 1995.

Some important ( to some ) new info is documented in The Secret War Files: The Battle of The Mace on History Channel.
It appears that Ultra failed to inform Canadian command of some vital information.

This historian is a great monday morning quarterback. The decsions were not easy ones and for this hack to question everything after the fact is disgusting.
Acknowledge the sacrifices of the Allied participants, if someone asked this pansy to fight he would probably run home to his mommy!!!!

@LlywelynYllevyn do not you open your dirty mouth on soviets, you fucktard, we never were bad, the fact your country has fabricated lies about us during the cold by no means makes us bad. How you dare to draw comparison between us, russians, and these evil german orcs?!
