A short film I made in my fourth year of architecture studies, with the intention to communicate the idea that my hotel design aimed to support; in short that the place people stay in should respect the place they visit and experience, and that the notion of traveling is one of a gradual transition from one environment to another. The design therefore proposed a series of small 2-4 room elements spread around a variety of sites, each independent and reflecting their surroundings in their design, and taking advantage of the differing situations, rather than landing a single monolithic structure onto one site, something I felt was neither appropriate nor even a benefit to this site or the program of a hotel.

I took inspiration from the existing infrastructure of the valley; avalanche shelters, electricity substations for example. A wonderful journey with good friends, and an interesting project to work on. I hope someone out there enjoys watching it.

Finally, the music - I thought the wonderful, ethereal and hypnotic work of Cliff Martinez (who created soundtracks to films such as Traffic and Solaris) was perfect to communicate these ideas, combining both melancholic harmonies and sublte variations in pace and rhythm.

I hope it works.
