Bob Schieffer interviews Richard Branson at the 2007 Aspen Ideas Festival.

Some of the most inspired and provocative thinkers, writers, artists, business people, teachers and other leaders drawn from myriad fields and from across the country and around the world all gathered in a single place - to teach, speak, lead, question, and answer at the 2006 Aspen Ideas Festival. Throughout the week, they all interacted with an audience of thoughtful people who stepped back from their day-to-day routines to delve deeply into a world of ideas, thought, and discussion.

Richard Branson is founder and chairman of the UK-based Virgin Group, Ltd., which includes international music megastores and companies in air travel, mobile communications, finance, retail, music, Internet, drinks, railroad, and hotels and leisure, with approximately 200 businesses and brands in more than 30 countries and revenues exceeding $7.2 billion. The award-winning Virgin Atlantic Airways, which he formed in 1984, is now the second largest British long-haul international airline. In addition to his business activities, Sir Richard is a trustee of several charities, including the Virgin Healthcare Foundation, a leading health care charity that has raised over £100 million.

Virgin Galactic is a company owned and established by Richard Branson's Virgin Group to undertake the challenge of making private space travel available to everyone and bycreating the world's first commercial spaceline.

Virgin will own and operate privately built spaceships, based on the history making SpaceShipOne . These spaceships, which are currently under construction, will allow affordable private sub-orbital space travel for the first time in history and give you the opportunity of being amongst the very first private astronauts. -- Virgin Galactic (website)

  • Dont let the price overwhelm you. No way in hell I could ever afford that much either but keep in mind that cellphones were once only an extravagance that the rich and corporations could afford to use. Now everyone has one. Let the Rich fund this early on so it can become mainstream. It may not be perfect but its the best we got for now.

  • if there were more people like this in the world, it would be perfect!! we need more big dreamers!! people that actually want to make a difference!!

  • What we are seeing here are the ambitions of a true visionary. A visionary that wants to use the market for innovation as a way of putting such discretion into the hands of the many.

This man deserves far more credit and attention than those that killed a teacher on national television.

  • nort to 3500 mph in 10 seconds??? as jeremy clarkson would say "POWEsdsfafl"

he had a stroke near the end there...

  • @ih8u2be nope, theres probably a shitter tho.

they are pretty much planes that go into space

  • I wonder if a SpaceShip would have proper medical quarters...

  • We have people with dreams within themselves and people with dreams getting into practice and transform it into reality with supporting the masses to grow and reach the perfect height across the globe. So i would really wish best of my best wishes the people with strategies and vision to transform their dreams into reality.

  • How come for every 1 Branson we get 10 Hitlers, 20 Rothchilds, 40 Rockefellers, and 1000 George Bushes?

  • sucker

  • 200k is not alot of money and it will get cheaper. It's alot if it's just a vatication for many it's much closer to a pilgramage. Just think the number of retired high school physics teachers who are willing to remortage their homes for a chance to touch the sky.

  • @js21392 You are so right

  • Where do I sign up! Forget NASA. Go Virgin! Lets get off this planet. Time for humans to move out into space. There is no other self aware intelligent life in the universe. We are it. Time to boldly go.
