This is a pair of fish, about 8 months old, born at my college's zoology lab (bred by me). Their parents were a Turquoise Veiltail male & WT plakat (Black body, red fins, blue iridescence with short-fins) female.
Here, male is a Grizzled (maybe even a marble) pastel-blue & red multicolor and, female is Turquoise with red washes.

The pair spawned at the grow-out tank, including 3-4 more females and another male (all are siblings). Spawn was unsuccessful, yet this video can demonstrate nicely the mating behavior and territorial disputes of the pair towards intruders of the same species.

Video's sound removed, as most of it is of me yelling on some stubborn students to keep away from the aquarium, so that they won't disturb the pair...

Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

  • It is in fact, completely normal, that a male will attack the females. I prefer keeping them separated in their own jars, where they can see each other, but not to touch or fight.

About breeding them, there are so many web sites with detailed information on how to do so, just google 'Breeding Betta splendens' or 'Breeding Siamese fighters'.
