Help me fix my truck! Its a 2005 2500 with an intake and cat back. The truck originally went in to the dealer for white smoke out my exhaust on start up. They flashed the ECU with an update for the smoke. This didn't seem to help. Soon there after I developed the hard starting issue seen on the video. I took it back in and they found nothing or told me they couldn't replicate the issue. It continued to do this and I then took it in AGAIN. This time they supposedly did a flow test on the injectors and found the number 1 was bleeding down.

So I get the truck home and for the first day I didn't have any issues. I thought this issue was resolved with the replacing of the bad injector. WRONG, I went to start the truck one evening and it happened again. CRAP! So I called the dealer again the next morning and had it back the next business day. I eventually called them and they said they cant find anything wrong with the truck, come pick it up.

Here I am making a huge payment on a truck and it starts like crap. It never did this when I first got it. I have since made an appointment at another local Dodge dealer for the same issue.

Help me guys! Dodge/Chrysler certainly isn't!

  • I haven't, the lift pump has been replaced along with all 6 injectors and it still does this from time to time. Please let me know if you come up with a solution.

  • Issue hasn't been fixed yet.

  • nope, not yet.

  • It doesnt solve the problem. I know I dont have to run the grid heater but if it has a hard time starting with the heater, it wont be any better without.

  • I'm not sure why I wrote cat back, but I have a 5" turbo back. Not that it has any bearing on the matter.

  • Seriously? I am a tech for ford and we have nothing but problems from the 6.0 and 6.4. Cummins is the best by far(I own a 06 ram 2500 and love it) And i dont know much about GM's but the good Allison trans.

  • That new lift pump fixed the problem. No more smoke, and starts right up. And my injector pump is now quite.

I think you should look into a new lift pump.

  • Im a ford guy but i might b able to help you i kno dodge had starter problems where the truck would start but it was at a high rpm the it would drop but like the guy below me said go to your local dodge dealer

  • always refer to dealer if need be

  • cumminsforum AND THEN .COM

  • GO TO THE CUMMINS FORUM. THEY HELP AND ARE GREAT FRIENDLY GUYS-

  • i know get a Chevy or gmc

  • Don't void that warenty(brain fart on the spelling) if they can't find a problem have them hold it longer and keep trying I've held customers vehicle for a week trying to duplicate a problem

  • ok it sounds like a fuel pressure isue. now there is two ways of doing this, you can turn the key on and wait 5 seconds after the glow plugs kick off if it is cold, but if it is hot then still wait 5 seconds. the other way is to get a external fuel pump for diesel's, autozone or orileys.

  • update the ecu to the newest program out.. a smarty programer can do it aswell.. or take it to dodge, the injectors have to see pressure inorder for the truck to fire, but with this new update these problems are usually fixed

  • 5.7 Hemy truck wont idle misfiring no codes

  • New Fuel filter, and Synthetic oil ... Try it
