For a long while, Sony Music Entertainment was claiming ownership of the audio for this file, but it looks as though this has now stopped, as it no longer shows up in "Content ID Matches" in my videos. :-)

As a result of this issue with Sony, a 'live performance' version of this piece of music was recorded and posted to:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRkUV73LPNM

I also started a group on Facebook called "Stop Sony Music Entertainment From Claiming My Recording!" to try to get Sony's attention. Visit:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=114632315242057&v=app_2373072738#!/...

to join or view this group, though its purpose may now have been fulfilled.

****Important Notice****

For anyone who sees an ad displayed with this video, I would be most grateful if you would take a screen shot of the ad, and post it to my Facebook group. Thank you to all who have posted in the past, as I myself did not see the ads where I live. They'll serve as proof if, if ever I need it, that Sony was running ads with my content and without my consent.

***

Sony Music Entertainment wrongly claimed that this recording of myself playing is theirs. I have disputed this claim, but they never responded to my four e-mail enquiries.

*****

A repost of what (to my bemusement) has been my most popular video to date. Unlike the last time, where I wasn't particularly depressed, I guess I'd say I'm no more depressed than usual: that won't likely change for a while yet.

The Mp3 for this piece is available at:

  • how could sony claim the rights to this song, if Chopin died in 1810? Thats about two hundred years ago-- copyright laws expire SEVENTY years after the composer is dead. That's right. We should protest music companies removing youtube videos. What ever happened to free speech? Just because we use a song in a video doesn't mean that we are earning any money off it, or claiming we made it. At most, we are advertising for their song! Down with sony!

  • @Kamibambiraptor Oh, please!! No one has right on this piece!! Sony is just shit, then! This is public domain >=)

  • @notlengthy Different people perceive music differently. Personally for me, the middle section does not sound "happy". It sounds like a feeling of reaching a moment of peace with oneself, of self achievement. But even though it contrasts with the previous section it's still nostalgic and moving, so it's not that far away from the feeling of sadness and despair. Regardless, the beauty of classical music is its emotional complexity. It's what I refer to as "a Pleasant Emotional Crisis"

  • @topitmunkeydog I'm sorry to be pedantic :S I believe Chopin was born in 1810 and died in 1849. I agree with everything else you are saying though.

  • @notlengthy it alternates between sad and happy because funerals are a time for celebration of someones life as well a time for mourning.

  • After i'm gone your earth will be free to live out its miserable span of existence, as one of my satelites, and that's how it's going to be.

  • I don't like how it alternates between sad and happy. I wish it would just stick with one.

  • So breath taking.

    A true stroke of genius...

  • @TheStockwell I am not a common YouTube user, as you state. Sony still does not have the rights to acting so asinine and claiming this song is there's

  • @Cotif11 No, I AM NOT AN IDIOT. I have spent the last six years of my life working on a documentary film that required me to learn - in a very painful and arduous fashion - that international copyright laws are more complicated than most YouTube users know. They vary from country to country. A composition I needed, written in 1896, is not in the public domain because the composer died in 1949. 75 year rights. The work will be PD in 2024. Get it?
