The traditions that formed roots music carry such deep history that we're still trying to figure it all out,

Early rural string bands and country blues musicians also had a great impact on the bluegrass repertoire. An easy example is: John Henry, a folklore story and song within the country blues tradition, would further lend itself to the popular bluegrass song Nine Pound Hammer.

This man is quite a superb musician and singer of this style.
He is from The Gambia in West Africa for those who asked.

Bluegrass is a mixture of African/Irish/gospel. White and black people worked in the fields and mines of the Appalachian mountains and played music together. Listen to the interviews of famous old bluegrass musicians one would easily count off as "rednecks" they're the first to tell you about it's roots and great bluegrass players are some of the least prejudice people you'll meet.
