A bunch of commercials that aired on ABC on March 13th, 1987. Be prepared to hear the phrase "Breakfast By The Hand" a lot during this particular compilation. For fun, take a shot every time this phrase is uttered.

1. McDonald's - "Good Timing" (Notice the giant phone he grabs at the end)
2. U.S. Army (And this is supposed to make me want to join how?)
3. U.S. Army (Emasculation total)
4. Volkswagen GTI (People singing in German have always scared the crap out of me)
5. Loreal Studio Line (Again, the influence of widespread cocaine use during the 1980's rears its ugly head)
6. Promo for ABC's "Wide World Of Sports"
7. McDonald's - "Breakfast For 4" (It'd be awesome if these guys had a sitcom where did literally nothing but sing in unison all of the time)
8. Volkswagen Golf (Question: When women are driving, are they constantly wondering if the dude behind them is checking them out?)
9. Avon (I love cheesy saxophone music from the 80's)
10. South Bay Health Center Dental Services (You know this guy was either an anchorman or game show host at some point)
11. KNTV 11 News Break (AIDS Scare!)
12. McDonald's - "The New Kid" (Against all odds, I hope this guy is still alive making Egg McMuffins)
13. Comtrex (Why does this sound like an evil corporation?)
14. Promo for "We Are The Children" (Ally Sheedy - learning about life's choices. Ted Danson - a cynic with a heart. Their love grew where nothing else could...Poetry, sheer poetry.)
15. Sunnyvale Ford (Damn, it's pretty amazing how cheap things used to be...)
16. McDonald's - "Special Delivery" (They really had the jingle writers working overtime for these commercials)
17. Bud Light (OK, this is frightening)
18. McDonald's - "Hot Hands" (Does anybody know who the girl at the end is? I'm sure she's either an actress, model, or both, and I can't put my finger on who she is. I'm thinking Kathy Ireland...maybe.)

  • The world would be a better place if they had breakfast at McDonald's for 24 hours a day.

  • @MattTheSaiyan I think allowing people to buy Egg McMuffins at any time of day or night might have some unforeseen consequences. Down would be up, black would be white...panic and hysteria would quickly engulf the streets of America. Not to mention the inevitable muffin, cheese, egg and ham shortages and the violent riots that would ensue.

  • Kathy Ireland was already famous in 1987 for being on Sports Illustrated for 3 years by then. It looks like a young Reese Witherspoon who would have been 10-11. The big hair and lighting makes her look older but, it is the rolling eyes look she gives the sandwich at the very end that ids her. It is the same look she gives in most of her movies. She did start modeling and commercials at 7 so, it is possible. What do you think?

  • @TheEmilyRoseShow Um, that's clearly not an 11 year old girl, and it's definitely not Reese Witherspoon. I tend to agree with the poster who pegged it as Mary Catherine Stewart from "Weekend At Bernies".

  • NIce commercials as always, but is it just me or did all the old McDonald's commercials look like they were tinted in sepia?

  • These ads were probably filmed during the first and last hour of sunlight...often called the "magic hour" or "golden hour" by cinematographers.

Because these commercials in particular are advertising breakfast at McDonalds, it was almost certainly an intentional choice. I can kind of see it in other ads, but it's definitely not as prominent as it is here.

Also, a few of my tapes tend to have kind of a yellow tint to them...either because of age or the broadcast quality back then.

  • McD's does hire older people for morning cashier jobs because each store seems to have its share of elderly regulars. Too bad they stopped making fresh biscuits; now they just arrive frozen in paper trays.

  • @Lmaox94 If that's how you look at it , then that's pretty shallow. I don't care if it's Red Lobster or Outback , it's not about the food , it's about the message of the commercial. I look for the underlying message , not what the commercial is trying to sell ( which I have the choice to buy or not to buy ).

  • @Retrofanatic10 I found it a bit depressing. the guy's retired already and now he's taking some shitty fast food job.

  • I was born in 89 and for some reason I find these 80s commercials fascinating and awesome

  • That McDonald's commercial ``the New Kid'' was probably the most heart wearming Mickey D's commercial I have ever seen. Seriously that was really sweet. They sure don't make `em like that anymore , huh?

  • I'm sure someone driving a Trans Am or Firebird really cares about a Volkswagen Golf!!!

  • He better be careful with that phone....could take someone's eye out 7:44

  • @daddygreenjeens Well, the 80s was when AIDS was no longer a "homosexual disease," but was starting to spread through the heterosexuals.

  • EFFICIENCY EXPERTS, COOL COMAPANY BROS

  • 4:06-:09 yikes!
