0:17 I thought there was a baby in the water, but then I realized it was just that guy's knee.

I actually like that episode of SVU.

I don't understand why everyone else is so bent out of shape about this. Comedy is comedy. If they don't like the subject matter, all they have to do is click away from it instead of preaching needlessly. This was by far not even remotely the worst rape related comedy I've heard. Sara, you're awesome, your bathing suit was cute, and you and James were a nerd's dream come true. Don't stop doin' what you do, girl.

You can hear the Rusty in him. <3

i just came in my pants

Wasn't it George Carlin who said that anything can be funny in right context? Certainly, if we find the humorous side to war, murder, drug trafficking, genocide, gulags and Chinese food, we can make jokes about rape. I think the point is not to make the horrible criminal act into some kind of sacrosanct object -- besides, this almost implies that rape leaves a person with dignity, which, obviously, it does not. Perhaps the ONLY response to rape is comedy.

@darkprose An interesting response, and certainly one that gives me pause to think. I was thinking today that I ought to look up some of Carlin's old interviews for inspiration, because if I'm going to joke about these issues, I should look to the Master (RIP) for his perspective.

I enjoy "Getting Wet," but as matter of civility, jokes about rape are probably even less funny than jokes about the holocaust. But no, that's a judgement call I'm not willing to make, which is more tasteless and vile, jokes about rape or jokes about the holocaust. "Rape" is just one of those "third rail" topics of humor. It kills the mood.
I can see how in just riffing off the cuff offensive stuff can get said. Not everything's gold. But how did that joke make it past edit?

@RockingJamboree Hi RJ. I appreciate your thoughts. I think comics often address taboo topics, sometimes touching that third rail. Sarah Silverman is a prime example. My intent was to make fun of SVU, not sexual assault. As a fan of SVU, I know as well as anyone else that the show relies on a fairly predictable (and successful) formula: there's an assault, with a victim, and a red herring, and a true perpetrator. At any rate, I chose the topic, and James did not. I respect your point of view.

Thanks for your prompt response. And I don't want to come across as a sanctimonious prig. I can appreciate comics addressing taboo subjects. I can see the funny in "Life of Brian" or even "The Producers."
I think I'm more sensitive to "rape humor" because I have a close friend who was brutally raped. And my sister runs a blog that explores these issues: "Wisecrack: Feminism and Comedy. She has run a series of articles about rape humor. The blog has done some really good interviews too! ; )

@RockingJamboree Well thank you for watching, and for taking the time to consider and thoughtfully address the issue. It's worlds away from the usual "fuk u bitch" critical comments. ;) You gave me food for thought.
