well actually, an otaku in the Japanese culture is actually someone who is completely and utterly obsessed with anime and manga, so much so that it's on a highly creepy level.

but to us Americans, it tends to be someone who loves anime, but calling yerself one generally gets you another title too, Weeaboo.
