This poor psychiatrist didn't know what hit him, when a little Bible-totin' girl showed up on his couch.

  • Your statement assumes that psychiatry contributes to understanding of the human mind. Unfortunately its own studies, conducted by its own criteria, indicate people are not helped more than hurt by it. Unlike real science, it cannot make testable predictions. This was a theme of the book cited by the Supreme Court in a 1993 case to explain its move to a different criteria for expert witnesses. See Saltshaker. US, click on child abuse. Psychiatry is the placebo, its own research proves.

  • Ironic analogy. A crutch is a blessing, for a cripple. A man who thinks he needs no power beyond his own to lean on is a sad case. By comparison, psychiatry is a paper crutch: he who leans on it will surely fall.

  • interesting statement, but that means nothing. psychiatry is the study of the mind, and by studying the mind one can find solutions for problems. religion is like a crutch because it doesn't solve problems, but merely compensates for peoples bad understanding of nature and the mind. the idea of god as a person who is always there to help you is a comforting idea, but is just another case of an uncultured placebo.

  • religion is a mental crutch.
