Me doing one of Paul McCartney's greatest melodic bass lines ever.

(It's a Hoefner Icon bass, with Pyramid flatwound strings, Yorkville combo amp miked with a Shure Beta 52A, and an old 3630 compressor to get that 'pop' sound with the pick strike).

  • awww man this is the best sounding hofner ive heard yet, all credit to your brilliant playing and feel. Is this a contemporary hofner 500?

  • It's the cheaper Icon model, but with Pyramid flatwound strings. It must be the strings that give it that tone, because with the originals it sounds a lot different (thinner and crappier, I think).

  • SWEET!!!!!

  • try using black nylon strings

  • Great job! I've always wondered about flats on frets. How do they hold up over time?
