How do you shoot a whole commerical on 150 feet of film? Very carefully, with a talented crew and a Tobin TTL motor. My friend, Roger Bourdeau (rustbeltfilms.com), flew in from Austin, TX (where he lived at the time) to shoot this and another project for me. His humble looking Bolex Rex-5 is actually an amazing art instrument when coupled with his pristine lenses, the TTL and his extraordinarily gifted eye. Later, he used the same rig in a documentary that aired on HBO, an episode of a CourtTV show and I'm sure many other awesome projects.
The music is a swift version of Lullaby for Birdland recorded by NYC composer/performer/author Eric Starr (drums) under the band name Modus Novus. The featured guitarist is Marc Schonbrun- another burgeoning music legend.
A major debt of gratitude is due Jeff T. at Flying Spot Film Transfer in Seattle. Recognized as one of the best in the business, Jeff really opened my eyes to the significant influence that a colorist has in shaping the picture. So much of what we see, or really taste.. sense... feel... about a film or video image happens in a color room. Jeff is a gifted artist, and it has been my honor to work with him.
The VO is Sandra Smith, who has a beauty deeper than her voice- try to catch one of her motivational seminars and read her book- that type of confidence is contagious!
I wrote and edited the spots and applied the graphical look with the boxes and all in After Effects- same with the logo anim at the end too.
