I argue against Corey Anton's thesis that death (usually implied to mean annihilation) is a gift. Instead, it is the greatest moral evil that we must fight. I criticize Heideggerian obscurantism, and praise the Objectivist, romantic idea of being the heroes of our own lives, struggling against a cold, uncaring universe to achieve our highest aim, happiness.

  • Thanks Miguel,

I wish that I had more time for philosophy. Actually, I spend most of my time philosophizing, just not vlogging about it. It makes me happy to know that Corey, Matt, and many others do have the time, and have made significant contributions to educating others.

    Take Care,

    Steve

  • @EnglishGoethe Nice video. I think your making a great point, biological death is not something "good." It is a horrible evil in many cases, like the holocaust, the cultural revolution, the U.S.S.R., and lots of other stuff. I think though Professor Anton, is saying that the awareness of death is a gift, because we seem to be the only animal on earth with that ability. I read one of his books, and this is what he talked about it. Good video, though.

  • Thank you for the intervention Steve.

  • Thanks
