Visit www.desertelephant.org Ever wanted to volunteer your time? Human - animal conflicts are happening all over the world. In Namibia, desert dwelling elephants are in competition for natural resources with the human inhabitants of the northern Erongo and Kunene regions. Elephant Human Relations Aid (EHRA) is a project that was launched as a result of this conflict.
EHRA believes that through assisting the human inhabitants in constructing protective structures around water points, educating community members about elephant behaviour, creating alternative drinking points for the elephants and promoting tourism in the affected areas, we can assist in alleviating the current pressure facing communal farmers. Thereby helping to promote the future of the desert dwelling elephant in harmony with the continuous positive development of the conservancies and their ideals.
This video is a result of the time I volunteered with EHRA.

  • Hey Andy, nice short - thankyou for that - but who are the 2 young kids singing and why aren't they credited?

  • Great vid, catchy soundtrack. almost gives a sense of being there.

  • Good video.

  • For other stories about human and environmental conflicts check out PulitzerCenter. Hear about Greg Carr and Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique as part of a wider series on human conflict and its environmental consequences.

  • very nice. and where is part 2?

  • Great little video, brings back some good memories.Always wondered what happened to Johannes after briefly working with him in '98. He was working with SRT back then and I was out there with Rayliegh. Busting with ideas back then and its great to see he has set up this fantastic programme. I am back out in Namibia in July / August and am going to try and track him down. Cheers Andy for making it possible. Steve.

HEC is a major problem in India too. We have carried an article on this in this month's e-zine . Pl. read it at the link below. http://www.indianwildlifeclub.com/ezine/detail.asp?m=5&y=2006&at_id=449
