Moin, Moin from Texas!
If you like the Golden entertainment of the 1920s, you might like Brendan McNally's dark comic novel "Germania" (Simon & Schuster, 2009), about the Flying Magical Loerber Brothers, four somewhat magical, Jewish vaudeville entertainers and onetime child stars who were the toast of Berlin before WWII and who reunite during the surreal, three-week "Flensburg Reich" of Admiral Doenitz, Hitler's very unlucky successor.

GREAT performance of quite a haunting tango-lied, as you say. Thank you VERY much for sharing this with us!!!!!

@Rudipolt Is this one of the movies in which Adolf Wohlbruck (better known later in the West as Anton Walbrook) was her co-star?
The recording was made for Grammophon on; 10. Oct.1934 in Berin from the Film: "Die englische Heirat" Music by Franz Doelle/ Lyrics by Charles Amberg.

Jurek, the history that you include with this song unfortunately reflects the fate of many great performers of this period. It is particularly tragic since she seems to have been not only very talented but also very beautiful. Beauty sometimes carries with it burdens too much to bear.

That's what I feel, too. Thank you.

A very nice version of the famous tango, in the movie "Die englische Heirat/An english Marriage" it was sung by the delightful Hilde Hildebrand in a nightclub scene, Renate Müller and Adolf Wohlbrück (Anton Wallbrook) danced to it as they heard it on the radio.

Thank you Leo...:) I saw this film some day on some "German channel".
And have recording made by H.H.; it was a sort of a problem for me to decide which one to chose; finally decided for the present one, there were more than one reason...:-)
