The first Type 57S debuted at the 1935 London Motor Show bodied with dramatic fastback Aérolithe coachwork, a style which was eventually refined into the Atlantic coupé. Eventually only 48 of the exclusive, sophisticated, rapid and beautifully constructed Type 57S Bugattis would be built of which only seventeen were bodied with the beautiful, elegant, athletic Atalante coupé style. Possessing a remarkable provenance, chassis 57551 was owned in the 1950s by famed artist André Derain and later joined the fabled Harrah's Collection, where it underwent a thorough restoration. It went on to win Best of Show at Pebble Beach in 1976. RM Auctions is pleased to present this example, along with 125 others at its Automobiles of Arizona event to be held on January 16th at the Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa in Phoenix, AZ.
