Colored Contact Dangers

Over 33 million Americans safely wear contact lenses, but health professionals warn of the growing use of cosmetic contact lenses especially among young people. Many of these lenses are purchased illegally from street vendors and flee-markets without a prescription and without an eye exam.

why are colored contacts dangerous???? whats the use of inventing it if it would just cause harm in our eyes??? i have many contacts from tricolor and freshlook

Federal law requires the Food and Drug Administration to regulate decorative lenses as medical devices. But decorative lenses continue to be illegally marketed directly to consumers.

For consumers who purchase lenses without a consultation with an optometrist or prescription the risks include: bacterial infection, conjunctivitis, swelling, allergic reaction and corneal abrasion. Additional medical problems may result in a reduction of visual acuity (sight), and contrast sensitivity.

I read even if we take care of them, we r at risk for amoebakeratitis, neurovascularization, etc... I don't know if I wanna wear lenses anymore. Color contacts have lower oxygen permeability and I don't wanna end up w blood vessels growing into the iris 20 yrs down the road.

I'm 15 use contacts. Love em. I use colored and clear ones. Love emmmmm. Some kiddies need to just take precaution

What if I ordered my Coloured contacts through my eye doctor, and he's ordering them for me.... is that still going to damage me eyes?

lol they make it sound like theyre drugs and that kids sit around and wear colored contact lenses because apparently it makes them cool. "hey bens having a party tonight and there are gonna be COLORED CONTACT LENSES" "woah man im in!"

This is ridiculous. Colored contact lenses only get a bad rap because you have dumb asses who don't know how to take care of them. Or the rules of wearing contacts, much less know how to put them in correctly!

@Pikachiika Oh but teenagers just know everything right? Thats why they get in to so much trouble. I am far from 40 but I learned from my teenage years and I know I am glad I am not a teenager. Not bashing I have a niece who is your age but I always tell her and teach her the best i can. If only teens would listen all would be fine :) I understand your point tho and that is very good I am glad you know how to use contacts.

thats true im 12 and have green contacts , but i kninda did simethin bad my friends parents own a like eye doctor place and she said she will get the ones i want for cheap soo it was a deal ... i didnt get it fitted though although her mother did teach me proper cleaning procedures an how to put em in and oit without damaging your eye , which i think is fine
