The Assignment is definitely one of the best Action/Thrillers ever made - brilliant storyline and acting. God, I love the 90's.

it was the bad guy (jackel) that burnd the inocent spider at the beginning of the film , at the end of the film it was the same scenario , but he lets the spider live, hence its the good guy (navy officer) - either that or the real terrosist (jackel has changed his ways)

Why don't you get the ending? It''s obvious. Watch the movie again, it's that good. Then you'll get it and appreciate it.

He doesn't look like "Carlos", but the story bases on Ilich Ramírez Sánchez' life. The rest is the fictional story of the hunt for "The Jackal" to arrest him.
It's not a high-class thriller, but the movie is it worth, if you like espionage-and-action playing in the eighties.
