@FightForYourFreedom2, In the last by-election - Oldham - which the Lib Dems bothered to fight, the party's share of the vote actually went up. As such, I wouldn't really read too much into Barnsley. Few should seriously think, for example, that UKIP are going to be finishing runner-up in a lot of seats in 2015.

@Tizy186 This was Labour's mess that they created through deregulation of the banks and an over dependance on the financial service sector. But the Liberals do have a huge amount of power in this coalition, comparable to their amount of MP's. If they didn't back the government and actually stood up for the majority of people in this country, we wouldn't have this Condem coalition pushing through cuts on the national and local level affecting the poorest in society the worst.
