Amy Goodman interviews Cindy Sheehan, who has just announced that she is stepping away from the antiwar movement after two years of being the nation's most visible critic of the war in Iraq.
She began speaking out against the invasion and occupation of Iraq after her 24-year-old son, Army Specialist Casey Sheehan, was killed in Iraq on April 4, 2004.
Cindy Sheehan made headlines around the world in August of 2005, when she staged a camp-out to pressure President Bush to meet her as he vacationed at his Crawford estate.
On Monday, Sheehan announced her resignation as the face of the antiwar movement. Sheehan said she is stepping down in part because of hostility from Democrats, whom she has criticized for supporting the war. Sheehan also cited repeated threats on her life, strains on her health and family, and divisions inside the peace movement.
She wrote, "When I started to hold the Democratic Party to the same standards that I held the Republican Party, support for my cause started to erode and the 'left' started labeling me with the same slurs that the right used. I guess no one paid attention to me when I said that the issue of peace and people dying for no reason is not a matter of 'right or left', but 'right and wrong.'"
Cindy Sheehan joins us from Sacramento, California.

BELLA DETESTA MATRIBUS
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A 45-year-old woman collapsed and died days after learning her son had been killed in Iraq, and just hours after seeing his body.
friends of Karen Unruh-Wahrer said she couldn't stop crying over losing her 25-year-old son, Army Specialist Robert Oliver Unruh.
Her husband described it as a broken heart. "Her grief was so intense it seemed it could have harmed her, could have caused a heart attack."

The one thing I don't like about Sheehan is that she believes George Bush is alone to blame for Iraq and Afghanistan.
Nonsense. The USA has had Iraq on its mind for a long time. You could elect a sock puppet for president and we would be doing what we're doing right now. It's call US self interest. I think she did finally realize this, but the Democrats used this brilliantly against the Republicans in the election. And of course, nothing has changed. Ha! fools.

I love the ideals of this nation, but I think I really feel that the founding fathers would probably never have bothered revolting if they saw Bush JR. as president. Am I alone, or is my sort just not loud enough?

I'm sure that if I went on Fox News they would portray me as an America hater but nothing could be further from the truth.

But I often feel draught because I feel that, between the right-wing and left-wing talking heads, America is loosing its way. I am a firm believer in social liberty, freedom of speech and religion, the right to own fire arms, racial equality, homosexual rights and capitalism. I guess that makes me a libertarian but why in modern American society is there this horrible trend toward polarization? Are my views so incompatible as to make me an outcast?

This video drives me nuts. Why does Ms. Sheehan say that we have too much in America? The problem is that people in other countries have too little. This is the trouble that I have with the left. This mind set seems to endeavor to make all people equally poor, rather than bring all people up to a better standard of living. For the record I am a veteran and served in Iraq, the invasion of which I thought was a horrible mistake. I also consider myself a liberal and despise the Bush administration

She has already address that issue, while she supports his anti-war stance, there are too many issue with him she does not agree with him on and she cant support him.
